Our History

The Dousman House has a rich history dating back to the mid-19th century. In 1864, the Milwaukee and Prairie du Chien Railroad operated between Milwaukee and Prairie du Chien, and they constructed their Railway Hotel on the banks of the Mississippi River at Prairie du Chien. This hotel would later become known as The Dousman House, named after Hercules L. Dousman, a prominent figure in the area's history.

Over the years, The Dousman House has seen its share of river life, hosting past presidents, Native American Indians, and dignitaries from all over the world. It has been fully restored to its original glory, and now it's your opportunity to add to the great history of this wonderful house.
